Short Bio
DeAndra Hodge is an African-American illustrator and graphic designer based in Brooklyn, New York. She has illustrated over ten children’s books, including the NAACP Image Award winning Yvonne Clark and Her Engineering Spark, Tell Me About Juneteenth, and The Beyond the Game Series. On top of freelancing for clients such as Cafe Bustelo, the DC Public Library, and Giant Foods, she also contracts as a Lead Designer with Hallmark Mahogany.

Long Bio
DeAndra Hodge is an African-American illustrator and graphic designer based in Brooklyn, New York. Due to her parent’s background in the military, she moved around a lot as a child though considers Huntsville, AL her home. Over her career, she’s illustrated over ten children’s books for publishers including Macmillian, Penguin Random House, Simon Schuster and Scholastic. Her debut children’s book Yvonne Clark and her Engineering Spark won the NAACP Image Award. She’s also known for illustrating Tell Me About Juneteenth, and the Beyond the Game Series.
Aside from picture books, DeAndra has illustrated and designed for notable clients including Cafe Bustelo, DC Public Library, Giant Foods, and she contracts as a Lead Designer for Hallmark Mahogany.
DeAndra is passionate for childhood literacy, and loves to focus on projects emphasizing the importance of history, community, and education. She spends much of time talking to art students about creating sustainable art careers, providing portfolio reviews to up and coming illustrators, and volunteering with groups such as Blk & Brwn Book Designers and partnering with organizations like DC Public Library and An Open Book Foundation.
While it’s very rare these days for DeAndra not to be working, she likes to read, go for runs, and spend time with friends and family exploring the city.
